Job Summary
Technical Director level Mechanical Engineer in Building Engineering based in Melbourne. Provide strategic leadership across major multidisciplinary projects, overseeing technical delivery, ensuring commercial performance and client satisfaction. Lead and grow client relationships across health, defence, aviation, transport, sports infrastructure and other sectors in Melbourne. Drive technical excellence by setting design direction, conducting high-level reviews, and ensuring best-practice standards across all mechanical deliverables. Mentor and develop engineering talent, build team capability, and create clear pathways for career progression. Contribute to business growth through work winning, market engagement, and strengthening AECOM’s reputation as a trusted technical leader in the region. The role emphasizes leadership, design oversight, cross-sector experience, client engagement, and talent development.
Required Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer with relevant professional engineer registration (or transferrable RPEQ/RPEV); equivalent recognition by a relevant professional body will be considered
- Ideally 18+ years’ experience in Building Services consultancy or significant design experience within Mechanical Contracting
- Proven track record in technical design and project delivery with strong client relationships
- In-depth knowledge of Building Services projects and Standards; ability to share expertise with clients, junior engineers, and broader teams
- Experience managing multiple technical projects simultaneously with demonstrable design experience across multiple market sectors
- Excellent communication and soft skills; passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers
- Australian Citizenship is required; current/previous defence clearance highly regarded
