Job Summary
Technical Director leading the Water and Climate Division’s flood risk work, driving delivery of high-impact research and consultancy. Role spans research and consultancy, requiring strong technical background in flood risk methods, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, and experience delivering large-scale flood hazard modelling, risk studies, and property flood resilience. Responsibilities include winning work through proposals, directing multi-disciplinary projects, mentoring junior staff, delivering training, and engaging clients and funding agencies while contributing to innovation and thought leadership. The position supports hybrid and flexi-time arrangements and involves leading technical delivery, client relationships, and proposal development for UK and international projects.
Required Qualifications
- Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (e.g. MICE)
- 15+ years proven track record managing complex, multi-disciplinary water projects related to flood risk
- extensive experience with flood management methods and hydrological/hydraulic modelling
- ability to win work, write proposals, and manage client relationships
- experience delivering training courses and mentoring internal staff
- strong project management and leadership capabilities
- ability to lead research and consultancy projects from concept to delivery
- excellent communication and collaboration skills across interdisciplinary teams
