Job Summary
Technical Director of Data Engineering who will design and build scalable data platforms and distributed processing systems across ingestion, transformation, and retrieval pipelines. Hands-on with production-grade solutions for AI/LLM applications, semantic search, vector databases, and RAG pipelines; deep experience with Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow, and modern data tooling; collaborates with product and platform teams to optimize performance, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency while mentoring engineers through design reviews and architecture guidance. Must enjoy building systems directly, have strong technical depth, and thrive in fast-moving environments. Hybrid work model with onsite expectation at least 50% of the time for commuting-distance office locations.
Required Qualifications
- Significant hands-on engineering experience building and operating production systems
- Experience with data platforms and distributed processing
- Experience with AI/ML infrastructure patterns
- Strong programming experience (Python preferred; Java/Go/TypeScript a plus)
- Experience with Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow, and modern data tooling
- Ability to design, implement, and mentor on CI/CD, testing, and observability
