Job Summary
Technical Buyer for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sought to lead design-to-cost, sourcing, and industrialisation for BESS products. The role blends deep technical insight with commercial and manufacturing know-how to cut cost, improve manufacturability, lift supplier performance, and scale production in a fast-moving startup. Responsibilities include driving value engineering and DFx reviews; leading end-to-end RFQ processes; supporting complex negotiations to optimize Total Cost of Ownership; partnering with Quality to qualify suppliers and monitor KPIs; and collaborating with Engineering and Suppliers to optimize manufacturing and ensure scalability. Required are a Technician certification plus a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent), 10+ years total experience with 5+ years in technical buying, hands-on electromechanical fabrication knowledge, ability to read CAD/BOMs, and proficiency in English with German (B2+) or Italian/Chinese as a plus; travel of at least 25% is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Technician certification; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience: 10+ years total, with at least 5+ years in technical buying
- Technical & Manufacturing Expertise: Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems (wire harnesses, battery modules, connectors, PCBA) and industrial processes (sheet-metal, welding, machining, cabinet assembly, thermal systems)
- Procurement & Design Literacy: Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD documentation, specifications, and BOMs
- Methodology & Change Management: Design-to-cost, DFM/DFA, value-engineering within dynamic production environments
- Languages: English required; German (B2+) or Italian/Chinese a plus
- Travel: travelling time at least 25%
