Technical Assessment Team Leader

Job Summary

Manage and develop the Technical Assessment Team, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant assessments while maintaining outstanding customer service. Act as the first point of contact for escalations, coach individuals through regular 1:1s, and drive continuous improvement by reviewing processes and enforcing new standards. Recruit, induct, and train new starters, monitor SSIP assessor competence including mandatory refresher training, and personally undertake technical assessments to support capacity and maintain credibility. Lead by example to model technical rigour and professionalism, holding clear accountability for team KPIs, SLAs, and quality metrics. Build strong relationships with certification bodies, scheme owners, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent achievement of business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • A-level or equivalent education
  • 2–3 years' experience in a Customer Service Team Leader/Management role
  • Minimum of 3–5 years' demonstrable Health & Safety experience
  • Construction-sector background
  • At least one SSIP-recognised Health & Safety qualification
  • Tech IOSH Membership (or be working towards a professional membership grade)
  • SSIP Registered Assessor status
  • Ability to complete and pass the 1-day SSIP Assessor Training Course within 3 months of appointment
  • 3-yearly SSIP Refresher Training capability
  • Appropriate knowledge of relevant UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Ability to read, interpret and review complex documentation
  • Proven experience of successfully leading, motivating, coaching and training others
  • Proven track record of successfully leading, motivating and developing a customer-facing or technical team
  • Recruitment, induction and performance management experience
  • Demonstrable Health & Safety experience within the construction sector
  • Working understanding of construction risk
  • 3–5 years' general Health & Safety work experience
  • 2–3 years in a Team Leader/Management capacity
  • Active commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • IOSH or IIRSM membership and/or CPD records
  • Ability to ensure the same of the team

Desired Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Equivalent construction-specific Health & Safety qualification
  • Prior experience of the SSIP process as a supplier/applicant
  • Experience within an SSIP scheme or Certification Body
  • Experience within a quality assurance, quality control or quality management environment
  • Awareness of, or experience with, the Building Safety Act
  • Experience with higher-risk building requirements
  • Background in fire or building safety compliance
  • Experience within an environmental management or compliance environment
  • Experience across supply-chain governance, risk management or compliance environments
