Job Summary

Take technical ownership of the Discovery team's services, ensuring conversational search and content intelligence pipelines are scalable, highly available, and structurally sound. Design resilient, decoupled distributed systems using event-driven architectures, champion DevSecOps practices, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and seamless deployment. Act as the financial guardian of the domain by monitoring and optimizing total AWS infrastructure spend across compute, storage, and LLM usage. Provide technical steering for Generative AI and RAG architectures, partnering with the Engineering Manager to balance new product delivery with architectural health and technical debt reduction. Write clean, resilient backend services using Node.js and TypeScript on AWS, while providing mentorship, leading architectural workshops, and conducting thorough code reviews. This permanent, east coast-based role features a flexible hybrid schedule and requires 8+ years of experience scaling complex distributed systems in cloud-native AWS environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience building, scaling, and maintaining complex distributed systems in production
  • Deep production experience with cloud-native AWS environments, specifically serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB)
  • Experience with containerized workloads (ECS/Fargate)
  • Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK or Terraform
  • Proven capability in modern DevSecOps practices, including building and maintaining robust CI/CD automation pipelines
  • Implementation of the AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • A strong track record of rigorous system design
  • Deep understanding of caching strategies
  • Database optimization
  • Web performance tuning
  • Distributed debugging
  • The technical maturity to evaluate, architect, and safely implement Generative AI workflows (such as RAG and orchestration via AWS Bedrock)
  • Advanced programming skills in Node.js and TypeScript
  • Comfort working in iterative, agile engineering environments that leverage Scrum or Kanban frameworks
  • Living on the east coast of Australia
  • Permanent position availability

Desired Qualifications

  • A strong background in enterprise search engines (like Elasticsearch or OpenSearch)
  • Data engineering pipelines
  • A passing literacy in React/JS/CSS
  • Experience with modern cloud observability and monitoring tools (like Dynatrace, DataDog, or AWS CloudWatch)
