Job Summary
Tech Lead (Architecture) role leading a team of data engineers and platform engineers to design and deliver cloud, data, and platform solutions. Responsible for architectural decisions, mentorship, code reviews, cross-functional collaboration, and driving best practices. Drive the technical vision, stay current with emerging technologies, ensure scalable, maintainable systems, and deliver projects on time and within quality standards. Collaborates with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals and communicates complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Hybrid work arrangement in London with two days per week in the office; travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in software development or data engineering
- At least 2 years in a technical leadership or architecture role
- Proven experience leading and managing development teams
- Strong background in software architecture and design patterns
- Expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Hands-on experience with Docker
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipeline design and implementation (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
- Hands-on experience with cloud data platform technologies (Databricks, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in Python; working knowledge of Java/SQL/JavaScript
- Experience with software architecture patterns including microservices, event-driven architecture, and domain-driven design
- Familiarity with data lakehouse design patterns (Delta Lake, medallion architecture)
- Experience with event streaming platforms (Kafka, Azure Event Hubs)
- API design experience across REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC
- Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies (SQL, NoSQL)
- Experience working within Agile delivery frameworks
- Previous experience in financial services or insurance is advantageous
