Job Summary
Senior Android Engineer owning major features in Speechify's Android app, shaping the Android team's future, maintaining reliability metrics for key features, collaborating with design and product teams, reviewing pull requests, handling critical issues, taking ownership of feature releases, and providing nightly builds for QA. Must have 5+ years of software engineering experience with Kotlin and Android stack (Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Jetpack Navigation, Jetpack Compose, JUnit, Android components). The role emphasizes product design intuition, user empathy, strong communication, and a drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the documented scope. Bonus experience includes open source contributions, iOS/Web/NodeJS familiarity. The team operates in a 100% distributed setup with Denmark-based salary range; remote work is the norm.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Familiarity with Android components
- Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
- Product design intuition and user empathy
- Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
- Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing tests
- Self-drive to improve the app and codebase above and beyond what's outlined in the spec
- Rock solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests
- Excellent communication skills
- User oriented problem solving approach
