Responsibilities include guiding the team through complex technical challenges, rewriting in-house middleware, collaborating with the Product Lead to balance business and technical goals (reducing debt and moving to standardized technologies), mentoring Backend Engineers to simplify system complexity and advance careers, leading hiring and onboarding of engineering talent, serving as the primary technical contact for the unit, and proposing modern technologies in areas like Message Queuing, data normalization, and observability. Strong track record in Strangler Fig migrations or similar architectural changes, deep experience with high-volume data pipelines and MQs such as SQS or RabbitMQ, and a passion for engineering excellence and inclusive culture are required.
