Job Summary
Direct all patient care services for the team, including volunteer and bereavement, and ensure services are integrated into the interdisciplinary plan of care. Review pending admissions, assessments, and discharges to verify eligibility and appropriateness criteria. Collaborate with team and attending physicians on palliative care measures and discharge planning. Manage the 24/7 team schedule, oversee staffing, and facilitate team meetings to update care plans. Supervise staff through field visits, evaluations, and payroll approval while mentoring new managers. Monitor clinical records, perform chart reviews, and ensure compliance with VITAS policies and regulatory standards. Address patient grievances, conduct utilization reviews, and analyze service failures to improve performance. Participate in on-call rotation, professional development, and community service organizations.
Required Qualifications
- Reliable transportation with appropriate license and insurance coverage for driver and passengers
- Private telephone in home
- Current and valid R.N. License to practice in the state where the VITAS program is located
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of primary medical and nursing care
- At least a working knowledge of oncologic nursing and palliative care
- Basic understanding of the interpersonal dynamics operative within the working relationships of an interdisciplinary health care team
- Knowledge of the process of dying and bereavement
- Working knowledge of VITAS information system (Vx) and the ability to utilize management reports
- Two years successful supervisory experience or equivalent in a health care organization
