Job Summary
Architect and deliver foundational services for the e-commerce platform using Haskell, Rust, and Python, while managing a team of four engineers. Organize work priorities, collaborate on long-term roadmaps, and mentor team members through performance reviews and skill development. Hire new talent, establish team culture, and improve internal processes. Design, develop, and test new features while ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance. Review pull requests, debug issues, and break down large projects into actionable tasks. Work closely with product engineering and DevOps teams on requirements. Manage a 50-50 split between leadership and hands-on development, with a 40-hour work week including two days in the Utrecht office.
Required Qualifications
- EU citizenship or a valid work permit for the Netherlands
- Available for at least 32 hours a week
- Two days spent at the Utrecht office
- Previous experience leading an engineering team, or being an experienced engineer excited to start your career as a leader
- Ability to give detailed code reviews from a high-level and a low-level perspective
- Technical depth to help team members grow and remove roadblocks
- Substantial backend development experience
- Skill with Haskell
- Comfort with Rust
- Skill with Python
- Familiarity with relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL)
- Familiarity with Linux
- Familiarity with git
