Job Summary
The Village is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support students in both school and residential settings under a certified teacher. Responsibilities include implementing behavior management in the classroom, providing academic, behavioral, and social development support, collaborating on IEP accommodations/modifications, assisting with 1:1 and group activities, transporting students when needed, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu. The role requires trauma-informed care, supervising and guiding students, completing required documentation, and participating in trainings and planning meetings. A Bachelor’s Degree is required, with a minimum of three years in the human services field or experience with special needs children; proficiency with standard computer tools and the ability to manage stress and emergency situations are also expected. The position is located in Hartford, CT, with an hourly rate of $22.00 and duties spanning before/after school and non-school days, including planful activities and collaboration with school staff and the residential milieu.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Three years in human service field or experience working with special needs children
- Ability to manage stress and respond to emergency situations safely
- Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows XP environment
- Physically able to supervise groups of children and perform physical intervention if required
- Certification Requirements: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Within 2 months of hire; First Aid/ CPR Within 2 months of hire; Public Service License (PSL)/V Endorsement Within 2 months of hire; DCF Medication Certification Within 3 months of hire
