Job Summary
Teaching Assistant duties include scheduled contact time with students, seminar material preparation, student consultation, marking/grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as required. Compensation is the TA rate based on degree status: $23.30/hour for those without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree, and $36.67/hour for those with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree. Requires Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent, and demonstrated teaching competence; applicants must explain how they meet each qualification in the cover letter. The position is governed by the CUPE Local 4207 collective agreement and may involve periods of intensive work with on-campus requirements; flexibility and adherence to workload limits are noted. Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
- Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
- Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines
