Job Summary
Teaching Assistant duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as required). Qualifications require a Masters or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent, or current Honours program status with adequate grades; demonstrated teaching competence and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines; completion of the course with a final grade of 75% or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must provide documentation to support equivalency and identify the course for consideration of equivalency. Flexible work arrangements may be offered; in-person campus work is required as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Masters Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
- If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered
- Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g. summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
- Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing intensive work periods
