Job Summary
Teaching Assistant (ISS) supports classroom instruction by assisting the teacher with individual students or small groups to achieve skill objectives. Responsibilities include administering, scoring, and recording tests as recommended by the teacher; reinforcing material or skills; operating and caring for instructional equipment; guiding independent study and group activities; reading aloud and assisting with reading comprehension; supervising tests and make-up work; communicating with students and alerting the teacher to any problems; serving as a resource for substitute teachers; maintaining confidentiality and high ethical standards; and participating in in-service training. Required skills include active listening, critical thinking, learning strategies, monitoring performance, mathematics, reading comprehension, judgment and decision making, time management, and desktop computer skills. The role requires standing and walking and involves working indoors and outdoors with students during a 182-day school-year term; salary is based on district scale for Teacher Assistants.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma with successful passing grade on the Para Pro exam or two year degree, or 60 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Prior work with children
- Knowledge of computers
- Preferably Bi-lingual communication skills
