Job Summary

Teaching Assistant for GEOG 3P05 at Brock University (Winter term). Responsibilities include scheduled student contact time, preparation of seminar materials, student consultations, marking/grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as required. Qualifications require enrolled in or completed postgraduate degree or Honours Degree in Geography (or equivalent), with 4 Geography credits and a 75% average, and a 75% or higher in the course being TA’d (or equivalent). Demonstrated undergraduate teaching or small-group leadership experience, strong communication/interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize deadlines, and knowledge of ArcGIS 10.1. Positions are paid at undergraduate rate ($23.30/hour) for those without an honours/4-year degree, or graduate rate ($36.67/hour) for those with an honours/4-year degree, with hours determined by the Collective Agreement. This is a part-time on-campus appointment with terms described by the CUPE Local 4207 agreement; on-campus participation is required and terms align with Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer academic terms. Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed an Honours Degree in Geography or equivalent*
  • Completion of 4 full credits in Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Geography courses completed (or equivalent*)
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent*)
  • Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS version 10.1
  • Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor
