Job Summary
Teaching Assistant for GEOG 2P03 (Cities in a Globalizing World) at Brock University, on a part-time on-campus role in St. Catharines. Responsibilities include scheduled student contact time and non-classroom duties such as preparing seminar materials, student consultations, marking/grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as required. Qualifications require either a postgraduate degree or an honours degree in Human Geography (or equivalent), plus coursework averages and prior teaching or leadership experience; strong communication skills; and proficiency with MS-Excel and QGIS/ArcGIS for spatial data work. Flexible work arrangements are available, with on-campus work as needed according to the Collective Agreement. Required Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Human Geography or equivalent
- Completion of 4 full credits in Human Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Human Geography courses completed (or equivalent)
- Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with MS-Excel or similar spreadsheet software to calculate descriptive spatial statistics and clean Statistics Canada data; and with QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar geomatics software to map Canadian census data and calculations from Canadian census data
- Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
