Job Summary
Teaching Assistant for CRIM 3P61 (Sociology of Punishment) at Brock University. Duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required per Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1 Collective Agreement. Qualifications require a Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent; vacancies may consider current honours students (with 80% average or higher) and require final course grade of 75% or higher for consideration of equivalency. Applicants must demonstrate teaching competence and the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines. Applications should explain how the four listed qualifications are met. Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
- If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered
- Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
- Ability to prioritise work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position
