Job Summary
Teach Visually Impaired students by developing, selecting and modifying instructional plans and materials using Braille, large print, and technology. Plan, prepare and present lessons; support mainstreamed students; coordinate with parents and staff; conduct functional vision and learning media assessments; interpret eye medical reports for educational settings; participate in staff meetings and IEP planning; travel between AACPS sites as needed; maintain attendance and grade records; require MSDE educator license and related certifications; utilize assistive technology and Nemeth/Braille proficiency where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Blind/Visually Impaired from a regionally accredited college or university required
- Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required
- Hold or be eligible for Braille Transcriber Certificate (Literary Braille Transcriber) preferred
- Hold or be eligible for Nemeth Code Certification preferred
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence required
- Daily access to reliable transportation
- Travel Requirements: 20% daily travel within the community between multiple AACPS sites
