Job Summary
Provide special education consultation and instruction to eligible students identified with autism spectrum disorder, developing and implementing instructional program goals based on scientifically based research. Participate in ARD/IEP meetings, administer criterion-referenced testing, and collect data to measure student progress. Demonstrate competence in behavior modification principles, including manipulating antecedents and consequences, while physically prompting students and providing personal care as identified in applicable IEPs. Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation and maintain ongoing communication with parents, campus staff, and supervisors. Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress. This role supports the Katy ISD autism program, offering opportunities to supervise teacher aides and pursue leadership tracks such as the Aspiring Assistant Principals Academy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area
- Experience in providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder
- Ability to work effectively between the school and community
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
- Occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily
- Positioning of students
- Moving classroom or adaptive equipment
- Noise exposure
- Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases
- Exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students
- May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint
Desired Qualifications
- Valid CPI certification (preferred or after employment)
- Advanced degree stipend for Master's or Doctorate degree
