Teacher, Special Education (Transition)

Job Summary
Collaborate with special education leadership to provide professional learning on transition topics and assist students in obtaining employment-related skills. Conduct direct instruction in classes covering resume writing, interviewing, and postsecondary options while monitoring progress toward postsecondary goals. Work with businesses to establish worksites, coordinate job coaching services, and facilitate connections with adult services organizations. Attend IEP meetings to develop transition plans, administer assessments, and collect data on workplace readiness. Manage a caseload of special education students and coordinate transportation to community locations and work sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience
- Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education
- Five years of successful classroom teaching experience in special education secondary level preferred
- Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
- Must be a self-starter who is comfortable and competent with leadership responsibilities
- Possess knowledge of technology applications related to transition
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
- Ability to be flexible and manage daily changing activities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel, members of the community and business partners
- normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies
- Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
