Job Summary
Special Education Teacher for Intellectual Disabilities responsible for planning and implementing instructional programs, monitoring student progress, and providing related educational services. Responsibilities include continual assessment and documentation, planning and implementing instructional strategies and materials, managing student behavior and environment, coordinating instructional activities with other staff, participating in in-service and professional development, communicating progress to students and parents, and collaborating with guidance counselors, librarians, and other professionals to support school-wide instructional activities. Requirements include holding a valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education (or eligibility with transcripts), knowledge of LCPS curriculum, proficiency with multimedia and technology to enhance learning, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Required Qualifications
- Valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education
- Eligible for Virginia teaching license in Special Education (must submit transcripts)
- Knowledge of LCPS curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization
- Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development
- Knowledge of current research and theory applied to instructional programs
- Skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning; ability to plan and implement lessons
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents; strong oral and written communications
