Job Summary
Special Education Teacher for Elementary in Abilene ISD Responsibilities include developing and implementing lesson plans aligned with district curricula, modifying curricula to meet IEP goals, and using accommodations for diverse learner needs. Manage classroom environments, assess student learning, collaborate with other staff to set instructional goals, supervise instructional aides/volunteers, and incorporate technology to support learning. Maintain professional communication with parents, comply with state and district regulations, participate in staff development, and support the district’s mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of ARD
- IEP goal setting process and implementation
- Experience in developing and implementing lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements
- Ability to plan and use instructional strategies and technology to meet diverse learner needs
- Experience in collaborating with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEPs
- Ability to supervise instructional aides and volunteers
- Commitment to professional growth and compliance with regulations
