Job Summary
Plan and implement specially designed instruction for students based on their Individualized Education Plans, including determining appropriate materials and utilizing multi-media technology to maximize achievement. Manage learner behavior in instructional settings and other school areas to ensure a conducive learning environment. Continually assess student achievement, maintain evaluation documentation, and communicate progress to students and parents through conferences. Coordinate instructional activities with professional staff, both school and non-school based, and participate in required in-service training and staff meetings. This itinerant position involves split duties across Richard and Mildred Loving Elementary School, Smart's Mill Middle School, and Tuscarora High School.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License with an endorsement in Special Education Deaf and Hard of Hearing PreK-12
- Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned
- Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development
- Knowledge of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
- Skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
- Ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
- Ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies
- Possess normal cognitive abilities
- Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
- Ability to regularly talk, express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word
- Ability to frequently sit and/or remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
- Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Must be able to work 10 months/200 days/7 hours per day
- Must be able to work at Richard and Mildred Loving Elementary School, Smart's Mill Middle School and Tuscarora High School
