Job Summary

Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans through the ARD Committee process. Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs while conducting assessments of student learning styles and presenting subject matter according to IEP guidelines. Manage classroom behavior, administer discipline, and provide personal care, medical care, and feeding as stated in student plans. Direct the work of instructional aides and volunteers, oversee extracurricular activities, and maintain open communication with families and colleagues. Compile required reports, comply with federal and state regulations, and participate in staff development and faculty meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignment
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
  • Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
  • Effective communication skills
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
