Job Summary

Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs through the ARD Committee process. Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs while conducting ongoing assessments of student learning styles and achievement. Manage classroom behavior, administer discipline, and provide personal care, medical care, and feeding as specified in IEPs. Direct the work of instructional aides and volunteers, while establishing open communication channels with parents, principals, and resource personnel. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district regulations, compile required reports, and participate in faculty meetings and staff development activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignment
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
  • Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
  • Effective communication skills
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
