Job Summary
The Teacher designs and delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction for high school Social Science & Global Studies, using a variety of instructional materials and technology to maximize student achievement. Responsibilities include creating authentic learning experiences, personalizing instruction, assessing student growth, communicating progress to families, managing behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment, planning with colleagues, and supporting students and the broader school community. The role may involve overseeing teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers, and participating in the school’s professional learning community to develop assessments that measure mastery of content and competencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in appropriate subject area
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
- Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Desire to participate in professional learning communities and collaborate with colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to design and assess instructional activities and learning experiences
- Understanding of Virginia Standards of Learning and LCPS curriculum
