Job Summary
The Teacher plans, designs, implements and assesses an instructional program in a high school environment for ninth through twelfth grade students, using Virginia Standards of Learning and LCPS curriculum to maximize student achievement. Responsibilities include designing authentic learning experiences with various resources and technology, personalizing instruction, assessing student growth, communicating with parents, managing classroom behavior, planning activities with colleagues to maximize learning opportunities, supporting colleagues, students, and families, and possibly directing teacher assistants or volunteers. The role emphasizes collaboration within the school's professional learning community and the creation of assessments that measure unit mastery; requires a Bachelor’s degree and eligibility for a Virginia teaching license with endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in appropriate subject area
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Demonstrated skill in using multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
