Job Summary
Plan, designs, implements and assesses an authentic science instructional program aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning for high school students (grades 9–12). Design and deliver engaging lessons using LCPS curriculum and varied instructional materials, personalize instruction to student needs, monitor and communicate student progress to parents, develop and use assessments, and participate in collaboration with colleagues to maximize student achievement. Create engaging, rigorous, and relevant learning experiences, manage student behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment, and contribute to school-wide activities and professional learning communities. May supervise teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers as part of delivering an effective learning environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in appropriate subject area
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
- Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
