Job Summary
Design and implement a data-driven, comprehensive guidance program to meet the academic, career, and social/personal needs of students. Conduct classroom guidance activities focused on academic, career, and social emotional learning while monitoring state assessment and course requirements for promotion and graduation. Offer developmental and preventive individual and group counseling, make referrals to school and community agencies, and serve as a resource for staff on guidance-related activities. Coordinate district and community counseling services, including the student services team, and provide consultative services and training to students, parents, and teachers.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling and Guidance from an accredited college or university
- Eligible for Florida Department of Education Specialization Requirements for Certification in Guidance and Counseling
- Knowledge of Florida Statutes governing promotion, graduation, state assessment program, compulsory school attendance, credits, Florida Virtual School, and home school
- Knowledge of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Exceptional Student Education services eligibility requirements
- Knowledge of Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Knowledge of subject content
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software skills
- Ability to plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Ability to devote additional hours beyond the workday for grading papers and preparation of lesson plans
- Ability to manage students
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
