Job Summary
Reading Teacher (Part-Time, One Year) responsible for assessing reading strengths, planning and implementing an effective reading program, coordinating literacy assessments, providing reading intervention, supporting classroom instruction, and leading professional development in literacy. Works with teachers, staff, and administrators to align with the Virginia Standards of Learning in reading, maintain current literacy practices, and ensure a coordinated reading program within the school division. Requires a Master’s degree with a graduate-level reading specialist preparation and Virginia teaching licensure, plus at least three years of classroom reading experience. 10 Months/200 Days/3.5 hours schedule; travel to multiple locations occasionally within a day.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved graduate-level reading specialist preparation program
- Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility
- Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s)
- Hold or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a reading specialist
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in the field of reading
- Ability to travel and navigate to multiple locations occasionally within a single day is required
