Job Summary
Reading Teacher role focused on assessing reading strengths/needs, planning and implementing effective reading instruction, coordinating literacy assessments and data use, providing reading intervention, supporting curriculum integration, leading literacy professional development, modeling reading strategies, and maintaining knowledge of Virginia reading standards; requires a Master’s degree with a graduate-level reading specialist program, Virginia teaching licensure eligibility, and prior classroom reading experience; position emphasizes collaboration with teachers, staff, administrators, and parents in a 10-month school year.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved graduate-level reading specialist preparation program
- Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility
- Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s)
- Hold or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a reading specialist
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in the field of reading
