Job Summary

Provide direct instructional services to special education preschool children according to their Individualized Education Plans in the least restrictive environment, typically the home, childcare setting, or community preschool. Manage a caseload based on child locations, service frequency, and session duration while collecting ongoing data to inform intervention support and update IEP goals. Design and deliver specialized instruction using the North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning and coordinate individualized family supports by connecting parents with community resources. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while staying current on professional development practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in special education and the development of young children
  • Extensive knowledge of young children with disabilities
  • Extensive knowledge of the Electronic Access to Student Information (EASI) system
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction
  • Ability to organize information pulled from multiple sources
  • Ability to perform data collection and analyze student data
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with system staff, staff of childcare centers, students, parents, external agencies, and the community
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, special education, or related field
  • Four years teaching experience in Pre-Kindergarten
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Birth to Kindergarten
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements
  • Ability to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff of childcare centers, students, parents, external agencies, and the community
  • Work is considered medium physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force
  • Ability to get on the floor and move in a variety of ways when working with young children
  • The work requires driving automotive equipment

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in special education from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Preferred experience teaching preschool aged students with disabilities
  • Experience with varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
