Job Summary
Conduct functional vision assessments, learning media assessments, and other vision-specific evaluations to inform eligibility and IEP development. Provide direct instruction in Braille, low-vision devices, and Expanded Core Curriculum areas while preparing adapted materials and compensatory devices. Collaborate with classroom teachers, O&M specialists, and families to develop measurable goals, recommend assistive technology, and ensure integrated service delivery. Serve as a member of IEP Teams, communicate progress in plain language, and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with state and federal laws. Work full-time across three school buildings to promote student independence and access to the general curriculum.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Master's Degree in Special Education
- Valid Massachusetts DESE certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Vision Impairment license)
- SEI Endorsement
- Knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), including compensatory/access skills, assistive technology, and O&M-related collaboration
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa
Desired Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Special Education preferred
- Experience with Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and low-vision devices preferred
