Job Summary
Provide an educational program for students based on their Individualized Education Plans, coordinating interpreters and modifying curriculum as needed. Utilize assessment and data collection to monitor academic and social progress, while communicating regularly with parents and staff regarding behavioral and adaptive needs. Incorporate assistive technology, maintain hearing aids and equipment, and implement classroom management strategies to ensure a safe, positive learning environment. Supervise students and adapt to unique circumstances including travel, extended hours, and transporting students via agency vans. Ensure accurate paperwork, meet deadlines for annual reviews and reports, and strictly adhere to HIPAA, FERPA, and state/federal regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ohio Teaching Certificate/License in the education of the deaf/hard of hearing
- Must demonstrate an advanced level of American Sign Language (ASL)
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members
- Valid driver's license
- Access/availability of a reliable vehicle
- Must be able to bend, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing
- Must be able to lift, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment
- Must be able to operate and/or ride in a vehicle
- Must be able to travel to meetings and work assignments
- Must be able to work extended hours
- Must be able to work under time constraints to meet deadlines
- Must be able to adapt to unique circumstances and factors such as travel, extended hours, student behaviors, lifting/transferring students, transporting students using Agency vans
- Must remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace
- Must maintain proper certification/licensure and initiate the renewal process in sufficient time to receive the updated certificate/license before the present certificate/license expires
