Job Summary

Conduct structured apprenticeship training aligned with Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements while receiving mentorship from certified Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Complete supervised field-based experiences alongside coursework to earn Pennsylvania Special Education teacher certification. Submit documentation of degree conferral, enrollment, and certification status to Human Resources for stipend verification. The program serves as an inaugural proof-of-concept for expanding certification pathways across special education areas including PK–12 and speech/language impairment. Participants must remain employed by the DCIU for a minimum of two years post-completion and accept Special Education Teacher assignments if offered. Successful completion of all training modules and certification yields a total stipend of $8,500.00, paid in three installments upon milestone verification.

Required Qualifications

  • current employee in good standing
  • Hold a conferred bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Receive supervisory recommendation
  • Be formally admitted to a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)-approved Special Education certification program
  • Commit to continued employment with the DCIU during the Program participate
