Job Summary

Provide specialized instruction and services to students with visual impairments to ensure access to the general curriculum and progress toward IEP goals. Collaborate with families, campus staff, and related service providers to support academic, functional, and developmental needs. Deliver instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) including assistive technology, compensatory skills, career education, independent living, recreation and leisure, self-determination, sensory efficiency, social interactions, and support of orientation and mobility. Assist classroom teachers in adapting materials and environments to support access, ensure availability of braille and large-print resources and equipment, conduct functional vision evaluations and learning media assessments, prepare assessment reports and instructional recommendations, participate in ARD meetings, and maintain ongoing collaboration with general education staff, related service providers, and families. Maintain records, adhere to district policies, and pursue ongoing professional development in visual impairment services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Valid Texas Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) certification
