Job Summary

The Teacher Leadership Specialist (TLS) serves as a liaison to school faculty within the Curriculum and Instruction Department, collaborating with district and school personnel to drive school, state, and district initiatives. Responsibilities include attending and/or delivering professional development, modeling and observing classroom instruction, and providing feedback to teachers. The TLS utilizes strong classroom leadership and curriculum leadership to design, implement, and assess instructional strategies that improve academic achievement across core content areas, solving problems and enhancing student learning with modern technology. The TLS must build trust with staff, operate as a member of the district Curriculum & Instruction team, create professional development plans, model enthusiasm and instructional strategies, visit classrooms daily, analyze and interpret formative and summative data, and support teachers through planning, coaching, and collaboration. The role requires effective communication with the principal, teachers, and district teams, staying current with research-based instructional practices, and coordinating district and school initiatives. This is a 10-month position with salary determined by the North Carolina Salary Schedule for Teachers, and assignments are based on district needs, with the TLS evaluated by the Principal. Other duties may be assigned by the Principal and the Superintendent.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current North Carolina teaching license
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study
  • Recognition as outstanding classroom teacher leader
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills
  • Strong literacy and communication skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and presentation skills
  • Liaison between assigned school and Curriculum & Instruction Department
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to conduct professional development for teachers and administrators at local and state levels
  • Experience modeling and observing classroom instruction; providing feedback to teachers
  • Ability to disaggregate, interpret, analyze, and maintain assessment data
  • Ability to operate technology in instructional settings
