Job Summary
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning for K-12 students with special needs, organizing accessible arrangements and posting lesson plans based on curricula and individual Educational Plans. Employ varied instructional techniques, including modifications and adaptive equipment, while assessing student progress regularly and providing progress reports. Prepare materials, evaluate performance, and use positive behavior supports to monitor readiness for progression. Maintain accurate records for student files, attendance, and incident reports, ensuring compliance with The Children's Trust requirements and state regulations. Build positive relationships with parents and enforce safety standards for students, staff, and visitors. Participate in teacher meetings, conferences, and workshops to stay current on special education best practices and research.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree
- Authorization to work in the USA
- Complete DCF Training hours in a specified period of time
- Level 2 Background check
- Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance
- Must be able to bend, squat, and sit on the floor and move around the classroom and playground with the children
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds with assistance, if necessary
- Must be able to work under pressure, dealing with events that are often outside of your control, and unforeseen changes/problems
- Effective planning and time-management
- Must be able to stay alert and focused at all times to ensure the safety of ALL the children in attendance, and be ready to react in any situation
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Degrees in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or related fields
- 3-5 years previous teaching experience with school aged children
- Bilingual
