Job Summary
The Teacher I Special Education prepares and delivers specially designed instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include planning lessons, adapting teaching methods, monitoring IEP progress, collaborating with service providers, and creating an inclusive classroom environment. A Bachelor's degree and a New York State Teaching Certificate in Special Education are required, along with the intention to complete a Master’s program within five years. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage student behavior, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree for initial certification
- New York State Teaching Certificate in Special Education N-6, K-12 or 7-12 with content area specialty (within 6 months of hire)
- Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work 12-month schedule
- Must be able to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends
