Job Summary
Design and maintain an inclusive classroom environment that supports the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and Colorado State Licensing requirements. Develop daily activity plans stimulating learning across all developmental areas, including those with disabilities, while managing the classroom and organizing materials to ensure adequate stock. Establish educational goals based on enrolled children and community settings, then interact directly with parents to coordinate field trips, extra-curricular activities, and scheduled events. Conduct family conferences and home visits to advise on child progress and collaborate with staff to identify needs and improve areas. Provide guidance and training to volunteers and other staff, supervise their performance, and collect accurate observation data and progress reports for individual children. Plan and serve meals and snacks, administer first aid or medication as needed, and maintain daily attendance records in SERVUE. Ensure the classroom remains safe, clean, and orderly, while complying with all state regulations and supporting the agency's mission to treat all persons with dignity.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from accredited two-year college or technical school
- six months to one year related experience and/or training
- Education and experience must reflect the specific age group with which the employee will be working
- Must comply with all Colorado State Licensing requirements
- Able to effectively manage a classroom of children
- Effective interpersonal communication skills with children, parents and co-workers
- Ability to remember schedules, programs, policies, and other details
- Ability to remain calm and calm others in an emergency and/or confrontational situation
- Knowledge of the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Must be able to administer first aid and/or medication (with appropriate training)
- Must be able to attend to medical devices as needed
