Job Summary
The Teacher for Grades 4-5 designs and delivers an engaging, standards-aligned elementary instructional program, selecting appropriate tools and resources to maximize student achievement across kindergarten through fifth grade as assigned. Responsibilities include designing authentic learning experiences, personalizing instruction, assessing student growth, monitoring behavior, and collaborating with colleagues, students, families, and the community to support learning. May direct teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers; participates in the school’s professional learning community to deepen understanding of curriculum, assessments, and student-development needs. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and Virginia teaching license (or eligibility) with subject-endorsement; strong communication and collaboration skills; adherence to assessment and grading policies; and the ability to foster a safe, supportive environment that promotes student agency and independence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in appropriate subject area
- Demonstrated knowledge of elementary content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
