Job Summary
Exceptional Education Teacher, General Curriculum, K-12, responsible for designing and delivering SDI, developing and monitoring IEPs, and collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and related service providers to support students with disabilities accessing the general curriculum. Duties include modifying and adapting curriculum, utilizing assistive technology, facilitating eligibility and IEP meetings, collecting and analyzing progress data, maintaining records, communicating with families, and ensuring compliance with IDEA and Virginia regulations. Requires strong collaboration, data-informed instruction, and ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to create an inclusive learning environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related field
- Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education - General Curriculum K-12 (candidates pursuing provisional licensure considered)
- Expertise in development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs in compliance with IDEA and Virginia regulations
- Proficiency in utilizing a variety of assessment tools and data collection methods
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Experience planning and providing Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)
- Ability to modify/adapt general curriculum for diverse learners and utilize assistive technology
- Knowledge of federal/state regulations governing special education (IDEA, Virginia regs)
- Ability to supervise paraprofessional staff when applicable
- Physical ability to stand/walk/bend with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds
