Job Summary
Develop and implement individualized instruction for students with autism and intellectual disabilities aligned with ASOL and IEP goals. Deliver evidence-based practices including positive behavior supports, applied behavior analysis, and functional communication instruction. Assess entry-level skills, collect data to measure progress, and adjust teaching strategies using standardized protocols. Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and specialists to foster inclusive learning environments and ensure compliance with federal and state mandates. Supervise instructional assistants, lead case management, and provide parent training on community resources and home techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligible for licensure in special education with an endorsement in adapted curriculum or severe disabilities
- Three years of experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities, or other low incidence disabilities
- Knowledge of the transition process/priorities
- Three years of experience working in a collaborative and cooperative manner meeting with student's parents to discuss student progress and areas of need and organizing exceptional education programs
- Three years of experience working in a collaborative manner with co-workers, staff, and community representatives
- Three years of experience scheduling and conducting individualized education programs (IEP)
- Ability to perform job expectations independently
- Ability to collaboratively work with various stakeholders
- Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds
- Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas
- Hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level
- Visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data
- Background investigation
- Fingerprinting
- Tuberculosis screening
Desired Qualifications
- Three years of experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities, or other low incidence disabilities, and knowledge of the transition process/priorities preferred
- Bilingual skills to include Spanish
