Job Summary
Teach English in an SEI setting, delivering instruction in language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism using standards-based curriculum. Adapt district materials to create sequential assignments that challenge students, while scaffolding and differentiating instruction to meet diverse needs. Assess understanding regularly, adjust teaching strategies to reach ambitious learning goals, and maintain a safe, respectful environment where all students participate. Engage families in collaborative relationships and actively reflect on practice within a professional learning community. This role supports the district's vision of high expectations and closing achievement gaps for all students.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English at the appropriate grade level AND either SEI endorsement OR dual certification in ESL
- Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools
- Current authorization to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Experience teaching in urban schools
- Degree in English or related field
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali
- Certification in Moderate Disabilities
- Certification in English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s))
