Job Summary
Plan, organize, and present instruction to help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their educational and social development. Manage instructional time by preparing materials, getting students on task quickly, and maintaining high levels of student engagement. Establish rules and procedures governing student behavior, verbal participation, and movement, while monitoring behavior during whole-class, small group, and seat work activities. Deliver lessons with clear objectives, relevant examples, and appropriate questioning, providing prompt feedback on both in-class and out-of-class work to encourage growth. Circulate during classwork to check student performance, maintain accurate records of student progress, and align instructional plans with system-wide curricular goals. Treat all students fairly, interact effectively with parents and co-workers, and perform assigned non-instructional duties while adhering to school policies and professional development plans.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
- Must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified to teach
- Must not be currently engaged in a certification revocation hearing process
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, equipment for children with special needs
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Physical requirements consistent with those for Light Work
- Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
- Ability to receive instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors
- Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists
- Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials using a prescribed format
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form
