Job Summary

Conduct direct instruction in Portuguese to elementary students, integrating second language acquisition and evidence-based practices to deliver high expectations and equal access. Plan lessons that celebrate cultural differences, manage the classroom environment, and adjust materials or assessments to meet individual student needs. Guide curriculum goals through clear objectives, regular assessments, and progress reports while collaborating with colleagues, parents, and administrators. Identify and refer students requiring special education accommodations, ensuring safety and well-being throughout the 10-month work year.

Required Qualifications

  • DESE issued license in field and grade level license for Foreign Language (Portuguese 1-6)
  • Bilingual Education Endorsement (BEE) associated with the language of instruction, or possession of a valid Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) license, or Transitional Bilingual Learning endorsement associated with the language of instruction
  • Portuguese proficiency of at least Advanced Mid
  • English proficiency of at least Intermediate
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner
  • Experience evaluating student skills through writing reports that interpret/summarize findings
  • Strong problem-solving skills and data-collection skills to support student success
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
  • Strong written and verbal skills for communicating with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and community representatives
  • Ability to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs several times a day
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone

  • Experience supporting students with special needs
  • Advance educational preparation in the discipline
  • Familiar with literacy development in Portuguese
  • Teaching experience in the discipline
  • Experience with second language acquisition
  • Ability to speak a third language, preferably Spanish
  • Additional content area license (i.e. ESL, Special Needs)
