Job Summary
Plan, prepare, and deliver Grade 5 ESL lesson plans aligned to academic standards in math, language arts, science, and social studies. Provide scaffolds for multilingual learners to access grade-level content while instructing students in learning materials and technology. Monitor student progress through data-driven observations, assign and grade assignments, and maintain accurate records of development. Establish classroom routines, manage behavior, and communicate regularly with families and colleagues regarding student needs. Actively participate in department meetings, professional development, and IEP discussions to support diverse language backgrounds. Requires Structured Literacy proficiency within one year of hire.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in the applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
- Elementary Education Teacher, Grades KG-6 certification
- All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12 certification
- Structured Literacy Proficiency Level within one year of hire
- Proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy
- Ability to exhibit Structured Literacy Proficiency Level within one year of hire
- Ability to provide English as a Second Language instruction to students identified as in need of ESL support
- Ability to accelerate the learning or acquisition of Academic English through math, language arts, science, and social studies
- Ability to implement all district MLL procedures
- Ability to serve as a resource for information regarding students from diverse language backgrounds
- Ability to plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans using instructional materials aligned to grade level standards
- Ability to provide appropriate scaffolds for Multilingual learners of varying English Language proficiency levels
- Ability to instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, using relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
- Ability to establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities and provide appropriate feedback on assignments
- Ability to manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing a warm, welcoming, and culturally relevant environment
- Ability to encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and regularly use data to observe and evaluate student performance and development to adjust teaching strategies
- Ability to maintain and update accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
- Ability to communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and families regarding student progress and student needs in a language they can understand
- Ability to actively participate in and contribute to department, school, district and parent meetings and professional development
- Ability to make recommendations for students who are being referred or during IEP meetings regarding instruction and assessments
- Ability to assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments according to state standards
- Ability to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all persons hired to work in the United States (E-Verify)
- Ability to work in a district where approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken
- Ability to work in an environment that supports creativity and ingenuity and respects credentials and abilities as a teacher
- Ability to set high expectations for academic achievement
- Ability to provide equal access to differentiated instruction
- Ability to endeavor to close the achievement and opportunity gap among historically marginalized subgroups within the schools
