Job Summary
Teach secondary students healthcare standards, careers, and clinical skills including CPR, first aid, biotechnology, and infection control. Deliver lesson plans aligned with NC CTE Standards, organize laboratory-type classes for demonstration and practice, and demonstrate medical math, ethics, and communication techniques. Instruct pupils on safe operation of medical equipment, perform minor repairs, and maintain inventory records. Evaluate student performance, prepare progress reports, and establish behavior standards for an orderly learning environment. Maintain contact with the medical community and post-secondary institutions to update curriculum on current medical methods. Complete the 40-hour NC DPI New Teacher Induction Program during the first year of employment.
Required Qualifications
- 720 RN License Route
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Associate's degree in Nursing, or Registered Nurse diploma from an accredited college
- Two years related work experience within the past five years (post-secondary nursing instruction is relevant if clinical observation of students was a required job function)
- Must hold an unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (for RN applicants)
- Must complete the 40-hour NC DPI New Teacher Induction Program during the first year of employment
- Additional course work required to complete NC licensure requirements
- 721 Non-RN License Route
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in one of the following areas or a related degree (Clinical Laboratory, Dietetics/Nutrition, Health Education, Nuclear Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Medical Care, Medical Technology, Radiology, Emergency Medical Care, Paramedic)
- Two years related work experience within the past five years
- Healthcare license representative of the degree (i.e. Certified Athletic Trainer, Paramedic state license, Certified Respiratory Therapist (non-inclusive list)
- Must complete the 40-hour NC DPI New Teacher Induction Program during the first year of employment
- Additional course work required to complete NC licensure requirements
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
