Job Summary

Support the grade-level lead teacher(s) in all aspects of the school day by creating and maintaining a positive, safe learning environment where students thrive academically. Collaborate regularly with other grade-level teachers and specialists while participating in Bentley's character education curriculum. Design innovative curricula that integrate academic and social-emotional growth, instructing individual students, small groups, or whole classes to carry out the curriculum. Prepare and organize instructional materials, acting as a classroom teacher during Lead Teachers' absence. Attend regular faculty and grade-level meetings, and assist with student supervision during lunch, recess, traffic duty, special events, and off-campus field trips. Participate in school functions including admissions events, Back to School Night, and conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Interest in a teaching career
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaboration and use of technology
  • Experience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core content
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students
  • Desire to continually examine one's practice with the goal to improve student learning
  • Commitment to issues of diversity, leadership, inclusion, and equity
  • Consistent mental alertness
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull moderate weight objects
  • Ability to bend and twist at waist and neck
  • Ability to kneel and bend at the waist
  • Ability to reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally
  • Finger and hand dexterity
  • Ability to read, write, and use a computer
  • Ability to hear and speak to exchange information in person or on the telephone

Desired Qualifications

  • Enrollment in teaching credential or master's degree program in Elementary Education
